The department-store chain Macy's said today that it will officially launch its Boston holiday season with a tree lighting in Downtown Crossing on Friday, Nov. 28

Plans call for a 50-foot Christmas tree atop the marquee ledge at Macy's Downtown Crossing store to be lit up between 5 and 6 p.m. on the day after Thanksgiving.

The evening's festivities will include free outdoor performances by the pop group Menudo; a mini-performance by cast members from North Shore Music Theatre's "Disney High School Musical 2;" a Boston Ballet performance of an excerpt from "The Nutcracker", music from the Boston Children's Chorus; and an appearance by Santa Claus, Macy's said." -menudo.com
